Right-back remains loyal to Darmstadt – focus on rehab after cruciate ligament tear
SV Darmstadt 98 can continue to count on Matthias Bader in the future: The right-back, who is currently recovering from a torn cruciate ligament and medial meniscus, has extended his contract, which was originally set to expire this summer. As the club announced, Bader will therefore remain with the Lilies beyond the current season.
Fernie: “Bader is of great importance to our game”
Sporting director Paul Fernie emphasized the importance of the contract extension: “We are delighted that we can continue to rely on Matze’s qualities. He has proven in recent years how important he is to our game. At the same time, we wanted to give him the opportunity to fully concentrate on his recovery in the coming months without any worries about his future, so that he can hopefully rejoin team training for the summer preseason. Of course, we will continue to fully support him in this.”
Bader: "I will do everything I can to come back as soon as possible."
Matthias Bader also expressed his delight at the club's confidence in him: "I've been here for over five years now, and during that time I've developed a strong connection to the club and the city. I'm all the more pleased that Darmstadt 98 and the management have expressed their desire to continue working with me despite my serious injury. I will do everything I can to return as soon as possible to repay the trust they've placed in me."
Bader joined Darmstadt 98 from 1. FC Köln in January 2020 and quickly established himself as a regular starter. The 27-year-old has made 118 competitive appearances for Darmstadt 98 so far, including five in the current season, before a serious knee injury sidelined him.
