The foolish majority symbolically takes over power in the town hall
At precisely 11:11 a.m. on Saturday, the revelers from Weiterstadt's carnival clubs stormed the media ship in Weiterstadt Niklas Gehnich found himself facing an overwhelming force of merrymakers. After a brief but intense scuffle, the mayor, dressed as a pirate, was finally forced to surrender the symbolic key to the town hall.
Carnival tradition with a special constellation
In his subsequent welcoming address, Gehnich greeted the numerous guests, the attending members of parliament, and the new Prince and Princess. He also welcomed the participating carnival associations KV Weiterstadt, KV Ahoi, KC Schneppenhausen, and the Wilden Weiber, thanking them for their dedication to preserving carnival traditions. With a twinkle in his eye, the mayor remarked that he would have to hand over the key to the city again so soon after his election, but at the same time emphasized the great importance of this tradition for city life.
The storming of the media ship and the symbolic handover of the key are firmly established carnival traditions in Weiterstadt. A unique situation arose at the end of 2025 due to a rare double change: Holger I and Corinna I became the new Prince and Princess of the Weiterstadt Carnival Association, while at the same time, Niklas Gehnich became the new mayor of the town. A comparable situation had last occurred in 2013.
Thanks to supporters and for the fun-filled get-together!
Special thanks were extended to the members of parliament present who supported the defense of the media ship, as well as to the Darmstadt brewery for a generous beer donation. Mayor Gehnich jokingly pointed out that the city coffers were currently filled exclusively with "Guzjern" (a local term for carnival revelers), but gladly invited the carnival-goers to stay for "Worscht und Weck" (sausage and bread rolls), an invitation which was readily accepted.
