The Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Darmstadt) awards twelve STEM certificates to daycare centers in southern Hesse
The Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Darmstadt) , together with the "Children Research" certified twelve daycare centers in southern Hesse. These centers can now officially call themselves "Houses Where Children Research ." The certificate recognizes that STEM education is provided there with high pedagogical quality.
The award was presented at the educational conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of the network partnership between the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and the foundation. The IHK has supported the initiative since 2015, thereby fostering children's sustained interest in science and technology .
Importance of early childhood STEM education
In her welcoming address, IHK Vice President Elfie Broschard :
“Early STEM education in daycare centers and primary schools gives all children, regardless of their family background, the same opportunities to discover natural sciences and develop a lasting interest. It creates the basis for educational and career paths and thus contributes to greater educational equity.”
The certification of the "Children Research" is based on fixed quality criteria, which are aligned with the German Kindergarten Quality Seal and the process-related quality criteria for science education . It is valid for two years, after which the institutions can reapply.
Examples from the region
The now-awarded institutions implemented research projects with the children to meet the criteria. A special case is the Reichenberg School in Reichelsheim , which has been certified for the fifth time and also functions STEM center
With this certificate, the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Darmstadt) is sending a strong signal for educational equity and early support in southern Hesse.
