A musical encounter between tango and baroque music will take place on June 29th at the Christuskirche in Eberstadt
On Sunday, June 29, 2025, the Darmstadt Concert Choir invites you to an extraordinary concert at 7 p.m. in the Christuskirche (Christ Church) in Darmstadt-Eberstadt. Entitled "Misa Tango," the program features sonically and stylistically contrasting works – a musical bridge between South American tango and European Baroque music.
The centerpiece of the evening is Martín Palmeri's "Misa a Buenos Aires"—also known as "Misa Tango." The work combines the traditional Latin Mass liturgy with the rhythms and harmonies of Tango Nuevo and stylistically draws on the musical language of Astor Piazzolla.
The Darmstadt Concert Choir will be accompanied by the renowned ensemble Tango Sí!, whose bandoneon, piano, strings, and vocals bring the characteristic soundscape of Argentina to life. The seven musicians bring many years of tango experience, including study periods in Buenos Aires and Paris. In addition to the Mass, instrumental pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Julián Plaza will be performed.
The exciting musical contrast is provided by Johann Sebastian Bach's festive motet "Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden" (Praise the Lord, all ye nations) and a choral arrangement of a Piazzolla song. The concert promises impressive stylistic diversity and a moving evening spanning continents, cultures, and centuries.
The Darmstadt Concert Choir is known for its stylistic openness – from classical church music to swing and modern choral literature.
