Green street furniture invites people to linger – environmental education meets climate adaptation
With the Mobile Green Room (MGZ), the science city of Darmstadt is bringing more greenery, shade, and improved public spaces to its urban areas. The planted street furniture is placed at various locations throughout the city, inviting residents to linger, explore, and relax .
Climate adaptation made visible
The MGZ is part of the city's climate adaptation and sustainable urban development measures . With vertical plant walls , integrated seating , and shade-providing vegetation, it improves the microclimate and contributes to reducing heat stress in the urban area.
Environmental officer Michael Kolmer emphasizes the added value:
“The Mobile Green Room is a visible sign of the importance of urban green spaces – especially in times of climate change. It combines environmental education, climate adaptation and quality of life in an innovative way.”
