Darmstadt strengthens sustainable mobility structures through institutional cooperation with HEAG mobilo
As the City of Darmstadt announced, the city council, in its meeting on Wednesday (12th), approved two proposals that will institutionally anchor mobility management in the long term for the development of new neighborhoods. Head of Mobility Paul Georg Wandrey described this as an important step towards sustainable, future-oriented, and interconnected mobility in Darmstadt's districts .
HEAG mobilo will take over strategic management in the future.
In the future, mobility management will be permanently implemented by HEAG mobilo GmbH. The "Extended Mobility" department, which has existed there since 2023, will assume conceptual and strategic tasks, in addition to the already approved citywide expansion of carsharing. For this to become legally binding, an amendment to the company's articles of association is necessary, which is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2026.
Operational tasks in Lincoln and Ludwigshöhe district are regulated
The operator of the mobility management system for the Lincoln housing estate and the Ludwigshöhe district has also been determined. Operational tasks include, among other things, the central allocation of parking spaces , support for participatory processes , as well as communication and public relations .
Goal: More mobility alternatives and a higher quality of life
Mobility management aims to help establish alternative modes of transportation that facilitate the switch to environmentally and climate-friendly means of transport. At the same time, it seeks to improve the quality of life in new neighborhoods.
Wandrey: Organize mobility instead of prohibiting it
Wandrey emphasizes the importance of the decisions: The city has thus laid the foundation for equipping new neighborhoods with mobility management from the outset. This is already part of urban development contracts – but is now also institutionally secured for the long term. The goal is " to organize mobility instead of prohibiting it – and thus create genuine mobility peace in Darmstadt's districts ."

Mobility Officer Paul Georg Wandrey emphasizes that Darmstadt, with its institutional anchoring of mobility initiatives, is pursuing a clear guiding principle: mobility should be organized and shaped – not restricted. The goal is "mobility peace" in the city's districts, to be achieved through reliable, climate-friendly options.
