Restrictions for local traffic on January 28th and 29th
dismantling the pedestrian bridge over the Modau River, an extension of Alte Sackgasse on Wednesday and Thursday, January 28 and 29. approximately 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. . Due to weather conditions, the demolition, originally planned for 2025, could not be carried out and will now take place in January 2026. Construction of the new bridge is scheduled for summer 2026 .
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey explains the decision: “For economic reasons, we decided against renovating the wooden bridge. Instead, a steel structure is planned for the replacement, which represents a safe and durable solution in the long term.”
Due to the demolition work, access to properties on Alte Sackgasse by car and truck is restricted. The construction site will be accessed exclusively via this street. Residents should expect typical construction noise. The removal of materials may cause temporary, brief road closures.
Background to the bridge closure
The pedestrian bridge has been closed since Saturday, November 15th , for traffic safety reasons. The closure followed a structural inspection of the wooden bridge, built in 1987, carried out in the spring of 2025. During drilling resistance and wood moisture measurements, significant rot damage was discovered in the longitudinal beams. The engineering firm commissioned for the inspection subsequently recommended closing the bridge no later than the beginning of the wet and cold season.
