Queer community recognizes commitment and solidarity
As the association vielbunt – Queere Community Darmstadt e. V. reports, the organization celebrated its 15th anniversary on November 28th. Former and current volunteers, supporters, and numerous members gathered for the occasion. The anniversary was combined with a thank-you celebration for the volunteers of Christopher Street Day. According to the police, CSD Darmstadt 2025 brought approximately 7,000 people to the streets.
Appreciation of the club and its commitment
Board member Christian März moderated the evening. Mayor and Head of Youth Affairs Barbara Akdeniz was the guest speaker. She reflected on the developments surrounding the Queer Youth Center and emphasized its importance for young people in Darmstadt.
“With the queer center, we have created a place for advice and interaction that has become an important meeting point for the community. I thank everyone involved for their continuous contribution to strengthening our diverse urban society,” said Akdeniz.
A look back at the beginnings
Simone Koch and Jan Rothermel, both founding members and active on the board from an early stage, recalled the early days of vielbunt in a personal retrospective. Many tasks were new back then, characterized by a pioneering spirit and courage. At the same time, they illustrated how a small initiative had grown into an association with a significant impact far beyond Darmstadt.
Their appeal: Visibility, engagement and social participation remain crucial.
Appeal for unity
In closing, the current chairman, Jan Bambach, spoke. With regard to the organization of the CSD, he thanked everyone who is involved in the community.
“With all these challenges, it’s important to see how many people are investing their passion and time. Solidarity remains our most important tool,” said Bambach.
Vielbunt concluded by thanking all the active members, supporters, and contributors who make the association, the CSD (Christopher Street Day), and the Queer Center possible. The celebration took place a few days before the actual anniversary date due to scheduling conflicts.
