New online service informs citizens about the energy transition
ENTEGA AG Darmstadt City Council's decision on the municipal heat plan as an important step towards a climate-neutral heat supply. Parallel to the presentation of the plan by Mayor Hanno Benz, ENTEGA is launching an information campaign for the public.
A new information page about district heating allows residents to check whether their building can be connected to the district heating network in the future, or whether a decentralized solution, such as with a heat pump, is recommended. Additional information about the energy transition in Darmstadt is also available there.
“The municipal heat plan and our heat strategy paint the same picture of the future by 2045. Now it’s about implementing the heat transition concretely in the neighborhood,” explains Thomas Schmidt, CEO of ENTEGA AG. The goal is to provide guidance and, together with the people of Darmstadt, to shape the path to a climate-neutral heat supply.
District heating is to be significantly expanded
According to plans, the share of district heating in Darmstadt's heating needs is expected to increase from around 15 percent currently to approximately 33 percent by 2045. ENTEGA is expanding the district heating network and simultaneously decarbonizing its generation. In the future, district heating will primarily be supplied by unavoidable waste heat from the waste incineration plant, large heat pumps, and, during peak load, by hydrogen or synthetic gases.
The implementation of the heat plan will involve extensive construction work in public spaces over the coming years. ENTEGA announces its commitment to providing transparent information and engaging in dialogue with residents. While construction sites are undoubtedly disruptive, they are also a prerequisite for a reliable, affordable, and climate-friendly heat supply in the long term.
Information and advice bundled online
On the new landing page for the energy transition in Darmstadt, interested parties will find not only an availability check for district heating but also explanations of the role of district heating and heat pumps, information on funding opportunities, and contact options for individual consultations. These include, among others, Effizienz:Klasse, a joint subsidiary of the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main Chamber of Skilled Crafts and ENTEGA.
ENTEGA sees itself as a long-standing partner of the municipalities in southern Hesse and wants to help shape the heat transition in a way that is technically feasible, ecologically sound and affordable for the population.
