Workshop discussion on municipal heat planning on February 3rd
The Riedstadt Environmental Working Group will present the results of the suitability assessment for municipal heat planning in a workshop. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Riedstadt Town Hall , Brienne-le-Château Room, 3rd floor.

The background to this is the law on municipal heat planning, which obliges the city of Riedstadt to submit a plan by mid-2028 outlining how it can heat its energy supply in a climate-neutral and cost-effective manner. As a first step, the city commissioned a suitability assessment. The city council unanimously approved this assessment in December 2025 and simultaneously initiated the analysis of the existing infrastructure and potential.
What the aptitude test achieves
The suitability assessment identifies areas that are highly unlikely to be economically viable for district heating networks. In these areas, buildings will continue to be heated primarily with decentralized heating systems, such as heat pumps. In the remaining areas, further investigations will be conducted to determine whether the development of district heating networks is worthwhile.
Mayor Marcus Kretschmann explains that the analyses should be prepared early and communicated transparently so that it becomes clear what options exist in the future.
Two information sessions
In addition to the workshop on February 3rd, another meeting is scheduled. On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Environmental Working Group will provide an update on the current status of the planning. A public exhibition is planned for this event, where residents can speak with specialist companies about climate-friendly renovations. Interested companies can contact the city's renovation management office.
The city continuously provides up-to-date information and results on municipal heat planning online.
