Creative insights into the social spaces of the city – participation of all generations
With around 60 interested guests, the exhibition "My Living Space" was officially opened at the Groß-Gerau City Museum on June 18, 2025. This intergenerational project emerged from the city's social space analysis and creatively demonstrates how citizens of all ages perceive and shape their living environment.
Exhibition showcases the diversity of the city's society
The exhibition focuses on questions such as: "What is the quality of interaction in our neighborhoods?" and "What places are missing to promote good community relations?" The result is a multifaceted show that reflects personal perspectives from all five social areas of Groß-Gerau – from daycare centers and schools to senior citizen facilities.
The contributions came from children, teenagers, adults, and older people, accompanied by artists. The form of artistic expression was freely chosen – a conscious decision that underlines the diversity of the city's society.
Interactive exhibition with opportunities for participation
Angela Matthies, coordinator of the family center and project initiator, emphasizes:
"This exhibition invites people to see the city through the eyes of others and to question their own perspective. Every voice counts, and those who participate also recognize their own responsibility for community life."
Visitors can share their own thoughts on interactive walls – for example, what they appreciate about their social space or what they wish for in the future. In this way, the exhibition is not only a presentation, but also an invitation to actively participate.
Mayor praises the commitment of those involved
Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau , who opened the exhibition, praised the commitment of the participants:
“This exhibition is a prime example of civic engagement in action. Here, people of all generations show what moves them. The openness with which the participants make their living spaces visible is particularly impressive.”
