Creative insights into the social areas of the city - participation of all generations
With around 60 interested guests, the exhibition “My Habitat” in the Groß-Gerau city museum was ceremoniously opened on June 18, 2025. The cross -generational project emerged from the city's social space analysis and shows in a creative way how citizens perceive and shape their habitat of all ages.
Exhibition shows diversity of the city society
The focus of the exhibition focuses on questions such as: "How is the quality of encounter in our quarters?" And "Which places are missing to promote good cooperation?" This has resulted in a polyphonic show that depicts personal perspectives from all five geriac social spaces-from daycare centers to schools to senior citizens.
The contributions come from children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, accompanied by artists. The form of artistic implementation was freely selectable - a conscious decision that underlines the diversity of the city society.
Interactive exhibition with participation option
Angela Matthies, coordinator of the family center and project initiator, emphasizes:
"This exhibition invites you to see the city with the eyes of others and to question your own perspective. Every voice counts, and those who are involved also recognize their own responsibility for the cooperation."
Visitors can share their own thoughts on interactive walls - for example what they appreciate about their social space or what they want for the future. The exhibition not only sees itself as a presentation, but also as an invitation to the active participation.
Mayor praises the commitment of those involved
Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau , who opened the exhibition, recognized the involvement of the contributors:
"This exhibition is lived citizen participation. Here people of all generations show what moves them. The openness with which the parties involved make their habitats is particularly impressive."
