"Plant standard fruit trees!": Discounted orders possible until September 15th
The Darmstadt branch of NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) is continuing its successful "Plant Standard Fruit Trees!" this year. The initiative aims to contribute to the preservation of traditional orchards and thus promote biodiversity in the region.
Thanks to financial support from the Darmstadt-Dieburg district and the Darmstadt city environmental office, can again at a discounted price starting from €35 – including planting stake and protective netting. The selection has been expanded to include wild fruit varieties , which are priced slightly higher.
Ordering phase and issue
The ordering period runs from July 15th to September 15th – or until the quota of 600 trees is reached. Distribution of the trees is planned for November 15th in Ober-Ramstadt .
Orchards are considered valuable biotopes , home to over 5,000 species of animals, plants, and fungi. Traditional fruit growing was added to the list of intangible cultural heritage To counteract the decline of orchards, NABU has been organizing this campaign for more than 30 years.
A wide variety of varieties are available online
In Germany alone, there are around 6,000 different fruit varieties , meaning there's a suitable variety available for almost every location. A selection of these is available in the newly updated online shop of the NABU district association:
