The city council and the German War Graves Commission call for remembrance of the victims of war and violence.
Groß-Gerau. On Sunday, November 16, 2025 , the city council of Groß-Gerau together with the German War Graves Commission, to the central commemoration ceremony for the National Day of Mourning . The event begins at 11:00 a.m. in the historic town hall (Frankfurter Straße 12). Doors open 10:30 a.m.
The National Day of Mourning commemorates the victims of war, tyranny and terror and calls for peace, democracy and humanity.
Speeches, music and student contributions
Following the welcome address by Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau Ulrich Görzel , chairman of the VdK local chapter in Dornheim, will give a speech Pastor Josephine Haas from the Evangelical City Church will offer a sermon and prayer.
A group of students from the advanced history course at the Prälat-Diehl-Schule will present their own reflections on the commemoration day. The closing remarks in the historic town hall will be given by Walter Ullrich , chairman of the association for the promotion of Jewish history and culture in the Groß-Gerau district .
The ceremony will be accompanied musically by the Riedstadt Music Workshop under the direction of Wolfgang Seidemann . The laying of wreaths at the war memorial on the ground floor of the town hall will conclude the event.

Following the main ceremony, further wreath-laying ceremonies will take place:
- Wallerstädten Cemetery: 12:45 pm
- Berkach Cemetery: 1:30 p.m.
- Dornheim Cemetery: 2:00 PM
