Sirens, warning apps and cell broadcast are being tested
The nationwide warning day will take place again on Thursday, September 11, 2025. As every year, it will be held on the second Thursday in September. The goal is to test the various warning tools used to alert the population and raise awareness of warning signals and their significance.
A test alarm will be triggered across Germany at 11:00 a.m. Various warning devices will be used:
- Warning apps such as HessenWARN and NINA
- Cell Broadcast – warning messages directly to your mobile phone
- Reports on radio and television
- Sirens triggered by the control centers
In neighborhoods where new sirens have recently been installed, the test alarm may be heard for the first time and may feel unusual. It is expressly a planned test, not a real emergency situation.
The nationwide warning day serves solely to test the functionality of warning systems and familiarize the public with the warning process. It is part of a comprehensive fire and disaster protection plan.
