Naturalization ceremony in the Orangery – Benz and Wandrey emphasize their commitment to democracy and the Basic Law
Mayor Hanno Benz and City Councillor Paul Georg Wandrey welcomed a total of 131 new Darmstadt citizens at a naturalization ceremony in the Orangerie yesterday, Wednesday (1st). Among those naturalized were 103 adults and 28 children. In 2024, a total of 1,166 people from 90 countries were naturalized in Darmstadt.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the new German citizens received their certificates of welcome. The event was accompanied musically by the Academy of Music.
Commitment to democracy and the Basic Law
Mayor Benz and City Councillor Wandrey emphasized the importance of the decision: "Naturalization is a clear commitment to our country, our history, culture and our free and democratic basic order based on our Basic Law."
Requirements for naturalization
The criteria for naturalization include, among other things, several years of residence in Germany, reaching a certain level of language proficiency, and a commitment to the free and democratic basic order.
