Debut novel “Yellow, also a nice thought” on February 27th
The Darmstadt City Church invites you to a reading with Hamburg author Nefeli Kavouras on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. She will present her debut novel, "Yellow, Also a Beautiful Thought," which was published in February 2026 by Kiepenheuer & Witsch.
Between caregiving, loss, and youthful longing
The novel centers on the family of Georg, who has been dying for a long time. While his wife Ruth devotes herself entirely to his care, their fifteen-year-old daughter Lea feels increasingly neglected. She longs to live, to kiss, and to plan her future – but the farewell to her father drags on agonizingly. Caught between closeness and estrangement, mother and daughter drift further and further apart until an unexpected event changes everything.
The author recounts the themes of caregiving, loss, and waiting for the inevitable with lightness and humor. Critics particularly praise the novel's linguistic subtlety and emotional depth.
A young voice in contemporary literature
Nefeli Kavouras was born in Bamberg in 1996 to Greek immigrants and now lives in Hamburg. There she works in the literary world, curates programs, and is active as a podcaster. In recent years, she has received numerous awards and been nominated for literary prizes.
The reading in Darmstadt offers an opportunity to meet the author in person and to talk to her.
