BUND and the adult education center provide information about species conservation at the city nature center
The German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) and the Darmstadt Adult Education Center to a free lecture at the BUND Center for Urban Nature on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. It starts at 6:30 p.m.
How houses can provide habitat for animals
Under the title "Nesting Opportunities and Dangers Around the House – Providing a Home for Birds, Bats, and Insects, Avoiding Dangers," the presentation demonstrates how buildings and roofs can continue to be used as nesting sites even after thermal insulation renovations. The focus is on bats, swifts, and house sparrows, among others, whose habitats are increasingly disappearing.
There are also special nesting aids for insects, which can be planned during construction or renovation projects or installed later. It is also addressed that these measures do not pose any hygiene problems and do not attract unwanted animals.
Another focus of the presentation is bird strikes. It explains why birds frequently collide with glass surfaces and mirrored facades, often suffering fatal injuries. Practical solutions for significantly reducing this risk will be presented.
Participation is possible on-site or online
The event will take place at the BUND Center for Urban Nature, Klappacher Straße 27 in Darmstadt (entrance via the Orangerie, first gate on the left). It is also possible to follow the lecture online via video conference.
