Grassl engineering firm wins contract – bridge demolition planned for 2027
Planning for the new Rhine road bridge is progressing rapidly. As the City of Darmstadt announced in its latest quarterly report, the engineering firm Grassl from Stuttgart has been awarded the contract for structural engineering and design services . The firm is considered experienced in bridge construction and is particularly familiar with the planned launching method for positioning the new bridge.
Planning begins with a clear goal: bridge demolition from 2027 onwards
The initial planning meeting ("kick-off") with the engineering firm Grassl has already taken place. The following next steps were agreed upon:
- Familiarization with previous work
- Creation of a schedule for the planning services
- Start of the design planning for the new bridge structure
- Development of a concept for the demolition of the existing bridge
The goal is to demolish the current bridge in 2027 and to complete the new construction as planned.
Amendment request in the planning approval procedure is underway
An amendment application for the adapted construction method is currently being prepared within the framework of the existing planning approval procedure. The necessary documents are to to the Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas third quarter of 2025 .
City Councillor Paul Georg Wandrey emphasizes:
"I am very pleased with the current progress. The project is on schedule, and we are ready to demolish the bridge in 2027. By decoupling as much as possible from other stakeholders, we are creating the greatest possible reliability for the citizens."
