Anna-Lena Krieg is the new pastor of the Petrus parish in the City-South neighborhood area
Since the beginning of the year, Anna-Lena Krieg has been the new pastor of St. Peter's Church in Darmstadt . The theologian has begun her ministry in the City-South neighborhood and succeeds Pastor Stefan Hucke, who retired last year. On Sunday, February 1st, at 2 p.m., she will be ordained by Provost Stephan Arras in a service at Bessungen Church, thus officially commissioning her for pastoral ministry.
The 30-year-old is still settling in. She is currently getting to know the St. Peter's parish, the surrounding area with four other congregations, as well as the Bessungen district and the city of Darmstadt. She has already conducted her first church services and funerals, and is also visiting groups, committees, and parishioners. She considers it a great advantage that she lives in the parsonage right next to the church.
Actively shaping the changing church
Anna-Lena Krieg brings experience in working with larger church structures. She is also familiar with cooperation with the neighboring parishes of St. Andrew's, St. Matthew's, St. Paul's, and the city church. The church is undergoing a fundamental process of change, she says, which she wants to actively help shape. Her goal is to bring as many people as possible along on this journey.
From her perspective, it's not just about personnel and finances. The central question is the Church's role in today's society. For Anna-Lena Krieg, the Church's role in democracy is crucial. She understands the Church as an institution with a watchdog function, one that champions human dignity and strengthens democratic values.
Commitment to democracy and education
The new pastor emphasizes that church activities, through charity, social work, educational programs, and institutions such as daycare centers and nursing homes, make a significant contribution to democratic coexistence. Democracy and religion are closely intertwined, she believes. This stance is also shaped by her own experiences: After graduating from high school, she completed a volunteer service in Bolivia, followed later by a specialized vicarage at the Anne Frank Educational Center in Frankfurt.
In her parish work, she focuses particularly on diverse forms of worship and working with different generations. Her aim is to convey the liberating message of the Christian faith and to strengthen people in finding support and guidance for their daily lives through faith.
