Preliminary work for the new primary school begins in Darmstadt / Construction work planned until summer 2028
Darmstadt. Starting Monday, November 10, 2025 , preliminary work will begin on the construction of a new primary school on the grounds of the Albert-Schweitzer-Anlage . The site is bordered to the north by Spreestraße , to the south by Adelungstraße , to the east by Fritz-Bauer-Straße, and to the west by the Albert-Schweitzer-Anlage .
During the construction work, the paths across the property will be closed . To ensure that pedestrians and cyclists are informed in advance, the city will install signs at the traffic lights in the area of Rheinstrasse and Elisabethenstrasse.
Following the path closure, the existing pergolas , benches , and trash cans on the east side dismantled. Additionally, the shrubs beneath the trees on the east side of the property will be trimmed back.
From Monday, November 17th , the remaining area will be secured by a surrounding construction fence . Following this, exploratory work on the tree roots . The actual earthworks for the new building are scheduled to start at the end of the first quarter of 2026. Completion is planned for summer 2028 .
