Diakonisches Werk and Science City Darmstadt prepare for volunteer work
A new qualification course for volunteer senior companions and office guides on October 22, 2025. It is offered by the Diakonisches Werk Darmstadt-Dieburg in cooperation with the Science City of Darmstadt, Service Center for Social Affairs and Counseling . The course runs until November 26, 2025 , and is usually held on Wednesday mornings at the Regional Diakonie in the Lincoln settlement. It will be supplemented by four additional sessions.
Since 2004, the course has been preparing people to accompany older citizens—whether on official business or in everyday situations. In nine varied units, an experienced instructor imparts in-depth knowledge about aging and offers practical tips for visiting.
The tasks range from sharing coffee or going for a walk to assisting with forms and administrative tasks . The goal is to enable older people to improve their quality of life and participate in their daily lives.
Participation is free of charge . The volunteers are assigned to the Darmstadt Science City, on whose behalf.
