Science city of Darmstadt lifts night-time reduction
The city of Darmstadt has switched the nighttime lighting in the Herrngarten park back to full power. As the city announced, the light output of all approximately one hundred lights was increased to "100 percent all night" on February 27th. The changeover was carried out by e-netz Südhessen.
Previously, the lighting in the Herrngarten park was reduced to approximately 66 percent between 10:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Only a few individual lights at the roundabout and on Schleiermacherstrasse were exempt from this so-called nighttime dimming; these had already been restored to full brightness by the end of 2024.
Most of the lights are equipped with high-pressure sodium vapor lamps with a nominal power of 70 watts. The majority of the lights were installed in 1997. The lighting masts date from between 1960 and 1997.
