Families celebrate a festive St. Nicholas Day event in the forest at the clubhouse.
As the Odenwald Club Groß-Gerau reports, the youth hiking group organized a festive St. Nicholas celebration in the woods , attended by 16 children and more than 30 adults. After a short hike, the group reached the festively decorated clubhouse, where warm drinks and homemade treats such as muffins, mini Bundt cakes, and cinnamon rolls awaited them.
Surprise visit at the clubhouse gate
With loud knocking, Saint Nicholas finally announced his arrival – this year in the guise of Mrs. Claus , accompanied by a helper. "From the forest outside, that's where I come from," she greeted the expectant children and explained the reason for her visit.
A festive atmosphere quickly took hold: The children sang Christmas carols together and recited poems. For each song or poem performed, they received a bulging St. Nicholas bag filled with sweets and a colorful water toy as a reward. The young hikers also thanked St. Nicholas with a gift.
Stick bread, campfire and cozy get-togethers
Traditionally, campfire bread was a must: Traudl Pitzer-Wagner distributed freshly prepared dough, which children and parents roasted over the child-friendly campfire. Meanwhile, the adults enjoyed mulled wine and bread with lard. Special thanks went to the muffin bakers and the helpers at the bar and in the kitchen.
The group remained gathered around the warming fire until late afternoon. Only after nightfall did the families set off back through the woods with lanterns and flashlights – a fitting end to an eventful St. Nicholas Day.
