Overnight accommodation for homeless people in Darmstadt
Temperatures in January were sometimes well below freezing. Therefore, Social Affairs Officer and Mayor Barbara Akdeniz is once again urging residents to take advantage of the emergency overnight shelters available.
"With these temperatures, especially at night, it is very important to me to once again draw attention to our assistance programs for homeless people to protect themselves from the cold! Nobody has to freeze in this cold and sleep on the street!", emphasizes Mayor Barbara Akdeniz.
The professional assistance provided by the organizations of the network for homeless assistance and the Office for Social Affairs and Prevention ranges from organizing overnight accommodation in one of the many homeless shelters run by different organizations to further assistance, in particular the tea room as a contact point for travelers, as well as the emergency overnight accommodation for women and men, which is open to homeless people in Darmstadt at any time of day or night.
“My appeal also goes out once again to the citizens of our city, on whom we have always relied in recent years. It is good to see that there is a high level of sensitivity towards homeless people among the population,” emphasizes Mayor Akdeniz.
"Speak to people threatened by the cold or simply inform the Office for Social Affairs and Prevention (06151 13-3277). The city police can also be contacted by phone (06151 13-2255). The city police station at Wilhelminenstraße 5 A also offers the possibility to report people at risk. In the evenings and at night, as well as in emergencies, the emergency services should be informed by calling 112."
