Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is being expanded – impact on commuters from the Ried region
As the Griesheim city press office announced, the Nordring will be completely closed for one and a half weeks starting Monday, March 3rd. The closure is due to excavation work at the corner of Nordring and Feldstraße, where new charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is being installed. The work is expected to last until March 28th, 2025.
Since the northern ring road is an important traffic artery between Griesheim and Darmstadt, the closure affects not only inner-city traffic, but also numerous commuters from the Ried region, especially from Riedstadt and the surrounding communities , who travel towards Darmstadt every day.
Why a complete closure?
A single-lane traffic system with traffic lights was considered, but would have resulted in a significantly longer construction period and considerable traffic disruptions . Instead, the road will now be completely closed for one and a half weeks to ensure the work can be completed quickly.
Diversion and traffic measures
During the complete closure, traffic will be diverted via the following route:
➡ Wiesenstraße – Rübgrund – Schöneweibergasse
Access to the retail stores on Feldstraße from the west will remain guaranteed. Additionally, a temporary one-sided no-stopping zone established on the detour route to create sufficient space for oncoming traffic.
Commuters from the Ried region should expect longer travel times and consider alternative routes.
