The southern part of the Kühkopf is being explored
The hikers from the Odenwald Club Groß-Gerau were warmly dressed for their themed hike in the Kühkopf nature reserve. After welcoming remarks from hiking guide Dietmar Autz, the tour started at the parking lot in Stockstadt.
The group was delighted by the magnificent hoarfrost on the trees, shrubs, and grasses. Passing the Guntershausen estate, they discovered numerous unique features of the winter landscape, including striking pollarded willows and so-called "white meadows." A cultivated oak tree with its mighty, gnarled branches was particularly impressive. To allow the acorns to be used for breeding purposes, the tree is fenced in to prevent wild animals from eating them.
Several short breaks for drinks were taken along the way. During a longer rest, the packed lunches were unpacked, and treats brought by various hiking companions were also gratefully received.
On the banks of the Rhine, several ships could be seen gliding seemingly weightlessly across the water. Following the apple tree-lined avenue, the hikers finally reached the Kühkopf Treasure Island Environmental Education Center, which invites visitors to linger with its diverse information and hands-on activities.
Hiking coordinator Beate Bolbach thanked hiking guide Dietmar Autz for the organization and the interesting tour. A total of approximately 13.5 kilometers were covered. The participants are already looking forward to the next themed hike, which will take place in the Odenwald forest.
