Galerie Netuschil invites you to a performance with Makiko Nishikaze and a closing event
The exhibition “On Birds’ Wings – Female Artists Between Worlds” is on display at the Netuschil Gallery in Darmstadt until August 1st . To accompany the exhibition, the gallery invites you to a special sound performance by Japanese composer and performer Makiko Nishikaze on Friday, July 17th , at 7 pm .
The exhibition brings together works by eight female artists from Japan, Korea, and China. On display are paintings, sculptures, installations, and performances by Chunqing Huang, Zero Reiko Ishihara, Wen Kan, Heryun Kim, Min Clara Kim, Miye Lee, Eun-Joo Shin, and Ning Yang.
With her performance "Bridge," Makiko Nishikaze has created a sound art piece specifically tailored to the exhibition. The composer combines music, sounds, and movement into a spatial experience designed to make the exhibited works accessible in a new way. Among other things, portable speaker objects by the artist Nikolaus Heyduck are used.
“Every exhibition can transform the gallery space. My sound performance will make the exhibition and the space newly perceptible through sound and movement. I envision myself as a performer becoming like a living bridge – both between the artworks and between the audience and the artworks,” Makiko Nishikaze describes her concept.
The artist studied composition in Japan, California, and Berlin. In her work, she combines natural sounds, music, experimental sounds, and improvisation to create multi-layered soundscapes.
The exhibition concludes with a finissage on Friday, July 31st, at 7 pm. The participating artists will then give a joint tour of the exhibition.
The gallery requests registration for both events. Admission to the sound performance is €12, and to the closing event €6, each including a drink.
