Delegations from France, Italy, Hungary and Saxony are guests – supporting programme with local museum and cycling tour from Bar-le-Duc
twin towns were once again strongly represented at the 48th Onion Market in Griesheim . At the invitation of Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl, delegations from France, Italy, Hungary, and Saxony traveled to the event and participated in a varied supporting program.
Guests from four partner cities
- Bar-le-Duc (France): Mayor Martine Joly with a nine-member delegation
- Pontassieve (Italy): Deputy Mayor Filippo Pratesi with City Councillor Mattia Canestri
- Gyönk (Hungary): Mayor Robert Téli with three representatives of the city
- Wilkau-Haßlau (Saxony): three representatives of the city administration
Bar-le-Duc twinning committee and the Pro Loco Pontassieve also had stands in front of the town hall, offering visitors wines, champagne, and regional specialties.
Visit to the local museum
On Saturday, the delegations visited the Griesheim Local History Museum , where they were welcomed by the museum team. After a guided tour by Hubert Beck, they enjoyed a tasting of freshly pressed "Äppelwoi" (apple wine). In the museum garden, the mayors of the twin towns planted an apple tree together – an idea from museum association chairwoman Julia Mörtel .
Sporty journey from France
A special highlight was the arrival of nine active cyclists from the ASPTT Bar-le-Duc cycling club , who completed the 354-kilometer route to Griesheim in three stages. Six accompanying persons followed by car. In Griesheim, they were warmly welcomed by the cycling department of TuS Griesheim . In addition to the onion market, excursions to Darmstadt, Messel, and Frankfurt were on the agenda.
