Psycho-oncologist talks about dealing with feelings after a cancer diagnosis
The Oncology Academy at Darmstadt Hospital continues its lecture series for patients and their families. The series kicks off on Tuesday, February 17th, at 4 p.m. with the lecture "Dealing with Emotions Following a Cancer Diagnosis." The event will take place in the Grafenstraße lecture hall at Darmstadt Hospital.
In her presentation, psycho-oncologist Cornelia Allard, who works at the hospital, addresses the emotional burdens that a cancer diagnosis can trigger. Many people experience such a diagnosis as a shock. The goal of psycho-oncological support is to understand this reaction as a normal and understandable response to an existential situation, to bear the burden together, and to develop individual coping strategies.
Monthly lectures for those affected and their families
The Oncology Academy offers monthly information sessions on all aspects of cancer. Experts from the hospital address various topics, including social welfare issues, nutrition, pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management, and other support services. A cosmetics seminar is also offered.
On March 18th, Kristina O'Donoghue, Medical Director of the outpatient palliative care team, will give a presentation on the topic "What is outpatient palliative care?".
Further dates and lecture topics are published on the website of the Darmstadt Clinic .
