Switching to "Onleihe 3" brings more convenience and new features
The Darmstadt City Library is expanding its digital services: Starting Tuesday, February 11, 2026, the existing "Onleihe" (online lending service) will be upgraded to the new version, "Onleihe 3." As a member of the eLibraries of Hesse, the Darmstadt City Library will continue to offer its patrons access to more than 355,000 digital media items such as eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines – now with significantly improved features.
"The new online lending service offers greater convenience, better navigation, and a more modern digital service," explains Holger Klötzner, Head of Education and Digital Affairs. The transition aims to make using and managing digital media simpler and more transparent.
New app and improved features
To use Onleihe 3, you will need to install the new Onleihe app, which is available in the usual app stores. After the update, all media types can be renewed, provided there are no holds on them from other users. The filter function has also been simplified and more clearly structured. The wish list will now offer unlimited space for saving reserved items.
