A week of mountain experiences between Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Eibsee and the Zugspitze summit
The Odenwaldklub (OWK) Groß-Gerau enjoyed an exciting hiking week in the Bavarian Alps. The destination was the traditional Zugspitze town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where the 38 participants spent a week exploring the beauty of the mountains on varied routes.
On the day of their arrival, the group explored the charming half-timbered houses, old farms and cozy alleys of the town during a walk.
Hikes on the Wank and the Zugspitze
The first highlight was the tour up the Wank , Garmisch-Partenkirchen's local mountain. After the ascent on the Wankbahn cable car, hikers enjoyed magnificent views and encountered numerous benches with quotes from famous poets and philosophers. The free-roaming horses with bells around their necks were particularly impressive.
A highlight of the week was the trip to the Zugspitze . Under a brilliant blue sky, the OWK members reached Germany's highest point at 2,962 meters on the cogwheel and glacier railway. A visit to the Tyrolean side, a panoramic view of Lake Eibsee, and the obligatory group photo at the golden summit cross rounded off the experience.
Through the Partnach Gorge and to the Eckbauer
The hike through the Partnach Gorge , with its steep rock faces and roaring waters, was a strenuous but impressive experience. After the gorge, the path snaked up to the Eckbauer mountain inn at 1,236 meters. After a refreshing meal, we took the Eckbauerbahn cable car back down to the valley.
High-altitude hikes and nature experiences
Despite the drizzle, the group took a tour on the Alpspitzbahn cable car to the Osterfelderkopf (2,050 m) . A section of the nature trail, with its summit cross and giant summit book, offered impressive views. After a refreshment stop at the German Alpine Club (DAV) Kreuzeckhaus mountain hut, the group continued downhill on the Kreuzeckbahn cable car.
The hikes around Lake Eibsee and the idyllic Badersee near Grainau also showcased the Alps at their most beautiful. A final stage led to Lake Riessersee, where we visited the historic natural bobsleigh track from Olympic history.
Thanks to the hiking guide
At the end of the trip, Annerose Kohlhaas small gifts to the hiking guides Heinz Pitzer and Rosel Wolk as a thank you for their excellent organization. In total, the group covered approximately 53 kilometers and 1,380 meters in altitude . After a week full of shared experiences, it was time to say goodbye – with a final look at the mountains.
