New animal from the Zurich Zoo complements the variety of reptiles in Darmstadt
The Vivarium Darmstadt Zoo is pleased about a special new addition: a panther chameleon has recently been seen in the tropical house in the large terrarium. The animal comes from the Zurich Zoo and continues a long tradition in the Vivarium - pantherchaleons have been kept there for decades.
The reptiles from the north of Madagascar fascinate with numerous special features. Depending on the gender, temperature and mood, you can change your body color. Their toes, which are overturned over gripping, enable secure climbing in the branches, the tail also serves as a graspan. Her eyes are also exceptional: they can be moved independently of one another and thus enable an almost complete all -round view.
However, the tongue of the Pantherchameleon is particularly spectacular: it can be stretched out on one and a half times the body length - at a speed of up to 20 kilometers per hour. So the animals catch their prey at lightning speed.
With the new animal from Zurich, the Vivarium Zoo is expanding its offer to another impressive example of exotic biodiversity.
