The Darmstadt Concert Choir commemorates remembrance, hope and peace on November 16th.
Darmstadt. To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Darmstadt Concert Choir to a moving peace concert entitled "Voices That Remain" at the darmstadtium on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 5 p.m. The concert will be a musical statement in support of remembrance, cultural diversity, and a peaceful future .
The program focuses on works that celebrate the cultural heritage of persecuted communities:
- Ralf Yusuf Gawlick: “Zrodlo (The Source)” – a contemporary work based on a poem by Pope John Paul II, which opens up new perspectives on memory and diversity.
- Roger Moreno-Rathgeb: “Requiem for Auschwitz” from the Sinti and Roma tradition commemorates the Porajmos , the genocide of the European Roma.
- Arnold Schoenberg: “A Survivor from Warsaw” powerfully conveys the perspective of a Jewish Holocaust survivor in a compelling musical language.
- Ludwig van Beethoven: The 4th movement from the 9th Symphony ("Ode to Joy") is played as a symbol of a new beginning – for a peaceful, united Europe .
“Voices that remain” sees itself as a contribution to an active culture of remembrance – against forgetting and for responsibility arising from history.
The project is being developed in cooperation with numerous partners, including the Association of German Sinti and Roma in Hesse , the Jewish Community of Darmstadt , the Polish Institute Darmstadt , Against Forgetting – For Democracy e.V. , the City of Darmstadt , the Darmstadt History Workshop , Europe DIRECT Darmstadt , and Pulse of Europa .
