Literary program from June 23 to 29 with events all over the city
The PEN Center Germany invites you to the annual conference in Darmstadt from June 23 to 29, 2025. The versatile program offers numerous public events in central locations in the city-including the literary house, the Centralstation, the Merck Stadium, the women's center and the orangery. Actions are also planned in the city center.
As the Secretary General of the German Pen, Michael Landgraf reports, the annual conference should set a clear sign of the importance of literature, freedom of expression and democracy. In addition to readings and discussions with renowned authors, the focus is on the programs "Writer-in-Exile" and "Writer's-in-Prison", who deal with persecuted writers worldwide.
A highlight of the week is the attempt by a reading world record on June 26th in the Merck Stadium at the Böllenfall goal, in which around 2,000 students will take part. A new election of the PEN Presidium is also part of the program.
The conference takes place in cooperation with the science city of Darmstadt and numerous regional partners.
