The modernized facility is intended to enable around 1500 pupils to receive traffic education annually
The newly redesigned traffic training area of the youth traffic school in Pfungstadt has been officially opened. The modernized facility was presented on Saturday by Deputy District Administrator Lutz Köhler. The Darmstadt-Dieburg district invested approximately €800,000 in the comprehensive renovation of the site.

The youth traffic school has been in operation since 1967. Since then, more than 60,000 students have received traffic safety instruction here. The modernization project brought the entire traffic training area up to the latest technical and infrastructural standards.
The majority of the investment went into civil engineering. This included laying approximately 200 meters of new stormwater drainage and installing about one kilometer of new curbstones. All traffic signs on the site were also replaced.
In addition, the building received a fresh coat of paint. Modern LED lighting was also installed in the training room.
The traffic control system has also been completely modernized. A new traffic light system, specifically designed for training purposes, along with new signage, allows for the realistic simulation of various traffic situations. This is intended to optimally prepare children and young people for road traffic.
Particular emphasis was also placed on accessibility. This included the integration of transitions suitable for people with disabilities and those with visual impairments.
In the future, rainwater from the system will be stored via so-called infiltration trenches and then allowed to seep into the ground. This will return the water to the groundwater.
The facility's traffic area covers approximately 1,600 square meters. The actual construction time was about six months. Including planning, tendering, and expert reports, the entire project took about a year and a half. Project coordinator Stefan Hechler from Da-Di-Werk was responsible for the implementation.

The youth traffic school is designed for around 1500 pupils per year and plays a central role in traffic education in the western part of the district.
