Over 3000 subsidized installations / Kolmer: “Photovoltaics remains a central component of our climate strategy”
Darmstadt. The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and research, has presented the results of its photovoltaic funding program . Since summer 2021, over 3,000 photovoltaic systems subsidized within the city limits. New maps show for the first time the distribution of rooftop and balcony solar installations throughout the city. The maps can be accessed at www.darmstadt.de/foerderprogramme .
“The maps show how much we have already achieved together in expanding photovoltaics and thus contributing to the success of the energy transition,” emphasizes Climate Protection Officer Michael Kolmer . “Many citizens have taken advantage of our services. At the same time, we see where there is still a need for improvement – especially in parts of the city center and in western Darmstadt. We will focus more on these areas in the future to further advance the expansion of climate-friendly and affordable solar power.”
100,000 tons of CO₂ reduction expected
The subsidized plants will save around 100,000 tons of CO₂ equivalents – an amount equivalent to the carbon stored 80,000 old beech trees €25 of funding a saving of one ton of CO₂ .
