Darmstadt should become more climate-resilient and vibrant
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, two of the eleven trees donated by the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation were planted in Seitersweg near Rosenhöhe. These were an apple tree and a pear tree. The planting was supported by the tree care team of the Parks Department, who, in addition to preparing the planting holes, provided the necessary materials and tools for successful planting.
Head of Green Spaces Michael Kolmer commented: “Every tree we plant is a gift to future generations. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation for these eleven gifts! With this generous donation, the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation is contributing to making Darmstadt more climate-resilient and vibrant. In addition to their numerous ecological functions, the new trees provide habitats for many animals.”
“For us, it is very important to send a visible signal for Darmstadt’s future with this donation. Local fruit trees contribute to improving air quality and create a pleasant urban climate. At the same time, they allow young people to experience firsthand how fruit grows in their surroundings,” emphasize Dr. Markus Hoschek, Chairman of the Darmstadt Citizens’ Foundation, and Senta Kahrhof, also a member of the board of the Darmstadt Citizens’ Foundation.
“With every tree donation, we want to make a contribution to our home. Enriching and supporting Darmstadt and its citizens is an essential task for us. We were able to implement this very visibly with the donation campaign of the Darmstadt Parks Department,” adds Gerd Wieber, Managing Director of the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation.
Through the "Donation Tree" campaign, citizens can symbolically donate a tree for 400 euros. The donations help support the city's tree planting efforts.
