Authentic performance with those affected on August 16th / Free admission
Darmstadt. The award-winning play "High – Someone's Always Got Something" by the Theaterhaus Ensemble Frankfurt will be performed on Saturday, August 16, 2025 , at the adventure playground in the Herrngarten park. Performances are at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. , and admission is free.
The story focuses on Jonathan Schyns and his mother Susanne , who tell their own story. Jonathan started using cannabis at 13, took party drugs at 15, and later developed an addiction to prescription medications and opiates. Today, drug-free, they both speak openly, directly, and without embellishment about this time.
“High” is a personal duet of experiences, emotions and reflections that shows the conflicts between mother and son as well as the destructive power of addiction and the long road back to life.
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes: “This play is moving because it is authentic. ‘High’ gives young people and adults a realistic insight into the dynamics of intoxication and addiction. It shows how important it is to talk about these issues, to make help accessible, and not to leave those affected alone.”
The event is part of the city's prevention initiative "Rauschzeit" ( , which aims to raise awareness of responsible behavior towards intoxication and addiction through creative theatre, workshop and discussion formats.
