Over €3,400 in donations for new trees in the Goddelau fields
Riedstadt. Following the deliberate poisoning of ten trees in the Goddelau fields this spring – including the listed, over 200-year-old Karl Spengler Oak and the Isler Oak – an impressive wave of solidarity has emerged in Riedstadt. The community's sympathy is immense: numerous citizens have donated to demonstrate their commitment to nature and environmental protection.
The town of Riedstadt, associated with Büchner, a police report against persons unknown after the crime and offered a reward of 500 euros for information leading to the perpetrators. To accommodate the strong public support, the town decided to increase the reward by the amount of donations received. More than 3,400 euros raised – most recently through an initiative by the Goller Alt-Kerweborsch (a local youth group), who distributed seedlings in exchange for donations during the Kerwe parade, contributing around 600 euros.
Thanks to the city and the prospect of possible new plantings
The city will thus increase the reward amount to approximately 4,000 euros . "The widespread participation and civic engagement are a strong indication that the people of Riedstadt care deeply about their natural environment," the town hall stated.
If no perpetrator has been identified after one year, the city plans to use the total amount of donations new landscape-defining trees in Goddelau fall of 2026 .
