Violations of driving and rest time regulations and inadequate load securing were found.
During a large-scale, cross-border traffic control operation on the A5 motorway at the Gräfenhausen East and West rest areas on Wednesday evening (May 14), police detected numerous violations. The focus was on checking commercial freight traffic . The operation was part of a joint security effort between several German states.
Numerous defects found in 42 inspected vehicles
Between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m., a total of 42 vehicles and their drivers were checked. Only 13 vehicles were found to be without any issues.
In 15 cases, violations of driving and rest time regulations detected – including one involving a driver from India who had repeatedly violated the rules. He had to pay a security deposit of €655 and faces administrative proceedings . The police emphasize the importance of such checks in raising awareness of safe and rested driving.
Deficiencies in load securing and transport of dangerous goods
There were also several complaints regarding load securing
- A Lithuanian truck carrying seeds was only allowed to continue its journey after more than two hours and subsequent repairs.
- A German transport of hazardous materials had to undergo additional security checks; proceedings will follow in this case as well.
- A Czech car transporter with eight loaded vehicles was completely taken out of service – due to exceeded dimensions and serious deficiencies in securing the load, further travel was not possible.
In addition, minor violations such as technical defects, missing warning signs or speeding were penalized.
