ZAW will be touring the district from July 24th – waste disposal possible on several dates
Griesheim. The Zweckverband Abfall- und Wertstoffeinsammlung (ZAW), the municipal waste and recycling association, will begin its annual autumn collection of hazardous waste on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Griesheim. As in previous years, the mobile hazardous waste collection unit stops in various towns and municipalities in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. The first collection dates in Griesheim will take place at three locations.

- 11:00–13:30: Cemetery Road (parking lot at the cemetery)
- 1:45 PM – 3:15 PM: Berliner Straße / corner of Brucknerstraße
- 3:30–5:00 p.m.: Rewe Center parking lot, Flughafenstraße
Saturday events at the Sterngasse festival grounds (Hegelsberghalle):
- August 9, 2025 , 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
- October 11, 2025 , 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
- December 6, 2025 , 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
Hazardous waste can also be dropped off at collection dates in other municipalities within the district. An overview is available on the ZAW website.
What can be disposed of – and what cannot?
Hazardous household waste can be dropped off at the mobile hazardous waste collection point. This includes, among other things:
- Paints and varnishes (excluding wall paints)
- Solvents and cleaning agents
- Plant protection products
- Waste gasoline, acids, alkalis
- Fire extinguishers (in household quantities)
Not accepted:
- Water-based wall and facade paints (emulsion paints) – these are not hazardous waste be disposed of in the regular household waste bin.
- Packaging, boxes or bags
- Car batteries, energy-saving lamps, fluorescent tubes
- Munitions, fireworks and radioactive materials
The amount of waste that can be dropped off is limited a maximum of 100 liters or kilograms per household and collection date must 20 liters in size . Important: Hazardous waste must not be left unattended or outside of collection times – this constitutes an administrative offense and endangers the environment and public health.
The mobile hazardous waste collection unit is staffed by qualified personnel. Disposal takes place directly on site – safely and free of charge for private households.
