Dispatch of election notifications
The election notifications for the election of the 21st German Bundestag on Sunday, February 23, 2025, will be sent to all eligible voters in Darmstadt by Saturday, February 1, 2025.
The reverse side of the voter notification contains a form for requesting postal voting documents. All Germans as defined in Article 116, Paragraph 1 of the Basic Law who have reached the age of 18 on election day (i.e., those born on or before February 23, 2007) and are not excluded from voting are eligible to vote. Anyone who has not received a voter notification by February 1, 2025, but believes they are eligible to vote, is requested to contact the electoral office no later than Friday, February 7, 2025 (Tel.: +49 6151 13-3007).
Postal vote
Due to the shortened deadlines of the early election, the postal voting period is only about two weeks before election day. Therefore, and because of postal delivery times, the City of Darmstadt recommends that all eligible voters in electoral district 185 go to the polling station on election day and cast their vote in person. Citizens who nevertheless wish to vote by mail are asked to note the following: Postal voting documents can be requested by mail, email, or online. Those choosing this method are expressly asked to allow several days for postal delivery and to request their postal voting documents well in advance. Returning the ballot to the electoral office also takes several days. Alternatively, ballots can be delivered in person to the electoral office or deposited in the mailbox of the Citizens' and Public Order Office (Luisenplatz 5, 64283 Darmstadt).
In addition, eligible voters can also visit the postal voting office of the electoral office (Luisenplatz 5, 64283 Darmstadt, 2nd floor, counters 15 and 16) in person without prior appointment, receive postal voting documents, and cast their votes in person (by postal vote) on site. Besides the voter notification, an identity card or other identification document must be presented.
The City of Darmstadt recommends that anyone unable to vote in person on election day apply for their postal voting documents directly at the postal voting office and take advantage of the opportunity to vote in person to ensure the timely arrival of their ballot at the electoral office. Applications by mail, email, or online are discouraged from Tuesday, February 18, 2025, onwards, as it cannot be guaranteed that postal voting documents will reach the electoral office by mail before election day.
The postal voting office will be open from Monday, January 13, 2025, to accept postal vote applications. Due to shortened deadlines, postal voting documents can generally be issued no earlier than Monday, February 3, 2025, even if requested by mail, email, or online. To simplify the voting process for citizens, the postal voting office will also be open on Saturday, February 8, 2025, and Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Generally, postal ballots must be received by the electoral office by 6 p.m. on election day. Information about the 2025 federal election can be found on the city's website: www.darmstadt.de .
