BüchnerBühne Riedstadt presents musical theatre about resistance and freedom
On German Unity Day, Friday, October 3, 2025, an extraordinary musical theater piece will celebrate its premiere in the Georg Büchner Hall of the district administration. The BüchnerBühne Riedstadt will present "Wenn es Rosen sind sie blühen" (When there are roses, they will bloom), a work that combines drama and music—composed for four trombones, a singer, and an actor.
Historical model and artistic implementation
The libretto was written by Christian Suhr, artistic director of the BüchnerBühne, based on his play based on the novel "Georg Büchner and the German Revolution" by Kasimir Edschmid. The music was specially composed by Mainz professors Immanuel Ott and Birger Petersen.
The work tells the story of the "Hessian Conspiracy" of 1834 and the famous "Hessian Messenger," written by Georg Büchner and edited by Friedrich Ludwig Weidig. It focuses on questions of resistance, political persecution, and the courage of individuals to stand up against injustice—topics that remain relevant today.
Artistic line-up
The trombone quartet Pospurtal will perform the newly composed music. The production will be complemented by bass-baritone Johannes Hill , a member of the WDR Radio Choir, and an actor in the role of Büchner. Christian Suhr will direct.

The premiere begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for €20 in advance (€17 concessions) and – subject to availability – for €23 at the door. Social tickets cost €10.
