Bijan Kaffenberger: "Darmstadt's growth must be designed socially fair"
Darmstadt - The SPD Darmstadt is concerned about the results of the current future atlas 2025 of the forecast Research Institute. In the overall ranking of 400 German cities and counties, Darmstadt occupies a strong 13th place and is one of the nationwide leaders in the categories Demography (3rd place) and labor market (9th place) - but with "prosperity & social location" the science city is 332 in the lower quarter of the ranking.
For Bijan Kaffenberger , member of the state parliament and chairman of the Darmstadt SPD, this is a clear warning signal: "Darmstadt's growth urgently needs to be designed socially just so that the city does not get into a social imbalance." The city benefits economically and waxes, but economic success is not sufficient for people .
Growth brings challenges for the social infrastructure
Kaffenberger criticizes that the growing city is increasingly being able to put on its capacity limits: "The streets, buses and trains are overcrowded, medical practices are no longer taking up new patients, primary schools burst from all seams, sports clubs have waiting lists and nursing services are overloaded." The city's economic success must be more reflected in social services , says Kaffenberger.
Social infrastructure as the basis for participation
the prerequisite for long -term stability, participation and quality of life, especially in a strong social infrastructure Low -income population groups in particular rely on functioning structures in education, health, care and leisure. "If the social infrastructure does not grow, too many people fall by the wayside," warns Kaffenberger.
The SPD Darmstadt announces that it will continue to pursue the topic in the coming months and to develop concrete solutions. The aim is to recognize the social challenges at an early stage and tackle sustainably.
