New concept brings music to the city districts – Mayor Benz draws a positive conclusion
DARMSTADT – Over a four-month period, from May to September, the science city of Darmstadt attracted around 4,000 visitors with its newly revived promenade concerts. Following a hiatus and the cancellation of the series in previous years, the concerts were successfully redesigned for 2025.
Cultural offerings in iconic locations
Instead of private providers, this time local organizers, clubs, volunteers, the cultural office, and the Darmstadt music office shared responsibility. Performances took place not only at traditional venues such as the lakeside stage at Kranichstein's Brentanowiese, the bandstand in the Herrngarten, the rose garden on the Rosenhöhe, and the orangery garden in Bessungen, but also at new locations like the Kiosk 1975 in the Postsiedlung, the schoolyard of the Ostendschule in Wixhausen, and the beer garden in Eberstadt.
30 concerts, 30 musical groups
Around 30 regional music groups performed on Sundays, bringing a diverse range of genres to the city's neighborhoods. In total, approximately 30 concerts took place. The response was overwhelmingly positive, both from the audience and the organizers.
The mayor takes stock
Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs Hanno Benz expressed his satisfaction: “Municipal cultural work must come to the people. Our citizen-oriented concept has proven successful. This free cultural program brought our citizens together in iconic locations throughout the summer.”
