The lower nature conservation authority calls for compliance with regulations in nature reserves and recreational areas
With spring, many people are drawn outdoors again – for walks, jogging, or with their dogs. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Groß-Gerau district reminds everyone that special rules apply in the numerous protected areas to safeguard sensitive habitats and endangered species.
The type of protected area is a factor. In the Groß-Gerau district, there are several categories:
- Nature reserves (NSG): Here, the protection of unspoiled landscapes is paramount. The rules are particularly strict.
- Landscape conservation areas (LSG): These serve to preserve ecologically valuable, but also culturally significant landscapes.
- Protected landscape features (GLB): Smaller areas such as orchards or hedges with high ecological importance.
- Natura 2000 areas: part of a Europe-wide protection system with a special focus on threatened species and habitats.
Regardless of their category, these areas are refuges for plants and animals – and at the same time recreational areas for people. Compliance with the rules is therefore not only legally required, but also a contribution to the preservation of biodiversity.
Rules in nature reserves
Nature reserves in the district are marked by a green sign with a white-tailed eagle. The following rules, among others, apply there:
- Only marked paths may be entered.
- Vehicles are not allowed to enter or park.
- Removing or releasing animals and plants is prohibited.
- Dogs must be kept on a leash.
- Barbecuing, camping and open fires are prohibited.
- You must take your rubbish with you.
Even in protected landscapes, protected landscape features, and Natura 2000 sites, restrictions apply depending on the protection status. For example, removing plants, driving vehicles, or altering the landscape are prohibited.
Fines may be imposed for violations
Anyone who violates the applicable rules will face a fine. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority therefore asks all visitors to be considerate. Only in this way can nature be preserved for future generations.
