Creative projects in public spaces will start in April
Darmstadt will continue its "Rauschzeit" prevention project in 2026. As the city announced, the addiction prevention agency will once again bring a diverse program to public spaces – with creative activities, workshops, and direct outreach to young people.
Low-threshold prevention in everyday life
The project is primarily aimed at children, teenagers, and young adults. The goal is to reach them where they spend their time – for example, in public squares, at events, or in youth centers.
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the importance of this approach: prevention works particularly well through direct communication, exchange, and easily accessible services. This allows young people to be sensitized to risks at an early age and their health literacy to be strengthened.
Conversations on equal terms
In addition to professionals, so-called peer-to-peer multipliers are also involved – trainee social workers who specifically reach out to young people. This creates conversations on equal footing, which often enable a particularly open exchange.
In addition, mobile teams are out and about in the city to spontaneously approach young people and inform them about consumption, risks and health.
Kick-off event at the JuMa youth center
The project kicks off on April 24, 2026, at the JuMa youth center in the Martinsviertel district. The opening event will focus on creative activities such as a printing workshop, a barbecue, and opportunities for conversation.
Throughout the summer, further events will take place at various locations in the city, including at the Schlossgrabenfest, on Luisenplatz and at Karolinenplatz.
The event concludes with the “Rauschzeit Closing” on September 25, 2026 at the adventure playground.
