The nominated work explores technology, religion, and immortality in the 22nd century
The Darmstadt Science Fiction Club invites you to a reading with renowned author and physicist Christian J. Meier The event will take place at 8 p.m. in the hall of the "Adebar" gathering for science fiction enthusiasts from southern Hesse and beyond will be held there starting at 6 p.m.
Meier will read from his latest novel , "Apeirophobia ," which is nominated Kurd Lasswitz Award in the category of Best German-Language Science Fiction Novel Micha Berg, suffers from apeirophobia—the fear of infinity—and joins an underground group of scientists who want to break the Church's monopoly on power over the human body. A dramatic struggle for the survival of humanity ensues.

The book was published by the Berlin-based publishing house Hirnkost , which won the German Publishing Prize in 2021. The reviews so far have been enthusiastic. Uwe Post, on Deutsche Science Fiction, praised the book with a "clear recommendation," while Erich Kocina in Die Presse : "It has a touch of Dan Brown about it."
“In my book, I address current issues – for example, what it means when technology leads to immortality,” Meier explains. The physicist, who holds a doctorate, writes for publications including the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , and the online magazine Riffreporter .
"Apeirophobia" is Meier's third novel. His previous works, "AI – Who Programs Fate" and "The Candidate," were both nominated for the German Science Fiction Prize.
