Nominated work focuses on technology, religion and immortality in the 22nd century
The science fiction Treff Darmstadt invites you to a reading with the renowned author and physicist Christian J. Meier for Saturday, April 26, 2025 . Meier reads from his current novel "Aexirophobia" , which is nominated Kurd Laßwitz Prize in the category of best German-language SF novels The action plays in a Catholic state of God in the 22nd century, in which the Pope realized immortality, sky and hell with the help of a technology. The protagonist Micha Berg suffers from Apeirophobia - the fear of infinity - and joins a substrate of scientists who want to break the church's monopoly of power over the human body. A dramatic struggle for the survival of humanity begins.

The work was published by the Berlin publisher "Hirnkost" , which was awarded the German publishing price in 2021. The previous reviews are enthusiastic. Uwe Post praised the book on "German Science Fiction" with a "clear reading recommendation", while Erich Kocina in the press : "A Hinter from Dan Brown swings with."
"I take up current questions in my book - for example what it means when technology leads to immortality," explains Meier. The doctor of physicists writes, among other things, for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the online magazine Riffreporter .
"Aexirophobia" is Meiers's third novel. His predecessors "Ki - who programs fate" and "The candidate" were both nominated for the German science fiction prize.
