The Literature Initiative invites to a reading in the "Literary Scene of Southern Hesse" January 20, 2026, at 7 p.m. The event will take place in the gallery of the Rosengarten Restaurant , Frankfurter Straße 79 in Darmstadt. Admission is free.
Darmstadt author Fritz Deppert presents his new novel "Dämmerstunde" (Twilight Hour) , based on eyewitness accounts and published in 2025 by Justus von Liebig Verlag. The book focuses on the special hour between day and night – a moment that invites reflection and remembrance.
At the heart of the novel is a narrator who intertwines his own life with the political and social developments of the 20th century: from childhood memories of the Nazi dictatorship, through the difficult postwar years, to the present day. Deppert explores not only the memories themselves, but also the process of remembering – the relationship between inner and outer worlds, personal self-examination, and historical contextualization. The result is a multifaceted literary work that transcends individual biography.
Dr. Fritz Deppert , born in 1932, was born in Darmstadt and studied German literature, art, history, and philosophy. Until 1996, he headed the Bertolt Brecht School. He has published numerous volumes of poetry and six novels and is a member of the German Writers' Association and PEN.
