Dotter Foundation reports successful conclusion of fundraising campaign
The Hans Erich and Marie Elfriede Dotter Foundation has announced that its fundraising campaign for the reconstruction of the former Eberstadt synagogue has been successfully completed. A total of €24,500 was raised. This sum comprises numerous individual donations as well as the proceeds from last year's Dotter concerts. The foundation will cover the remaining costs itself.
Virtual and physical models are created
The donated funds will be used to implement a project of significant cultural and historical importance: The Technical University of Darmstadt is creating a digital reconstruction of the synagogue, which was inaugurated in 1915 and destroyed in 1938. A physical cutaway model will also be created using 3D stainless steel printing.
The total costs of around 34,000 euros for the physical model and a further 16,000 euros for the virtual reconstruction are covered by donations and the Dotter Foundation.
Handover to the Eberstadt community
The 3D cutaway model was unveiled on September 7, 2025 – the 110th anniversary of the synagogue's dedication – during a commemorative ceremony. After the renovation of Eberstadt's town hall is completed, it will be permanently displayed there. The model will serve as a memorial and learning center, providing schools, clubs, and the general public with access to Eberstadt's Jewish history.

The reconstruction is part of a comprehensive cultural history project by the foundation in cooperation with TU Darmstadt and other scientific partners.

Virtual Reconstruction
: TU Darmstadt is creating a digital model of the synagogue based on historical plans, photographs, and archival documents. This allows for a realistic representation of the interior and exterior spaces.
Physical 3D cutaway model:
A spatial stainless steel model is created using 3D printing, which also offers insights into the historical interior architecture through a cutaway view.
